Sculptural Decorative Shelf
Description
Title: Bass, Bottle Caps, & Bricolage
Decorative sculpture shelf. 18" x 30"
Materials: Tufted acrylic yarn bass rug, cardboard, scrap wood, plaster, hemp fiber, found objects
As an avid paddleboarder, I try to do my part to keep the waters clean. One day I strapped a bin to my board and collected trash out of Lady Bird Lake for 2 hours. The most common items I found were bottle caps, which I turned into stones by wrapping them in plaster and hemp fiber. The driftwood and fishing line were also found during this cleanup trip.
I chose to make a Largemouth Bass rug to represent the natural side of this piece as the most commonly found fish species in the lake as a counterpart to the human-made bottle caps. The tall wood is scrap material from my woodshop class and the base of the piece is a defective scrap gifted to me by Gary Weeks & Co.
