Ikigai is a Japanese concept that defines your “reason for being.” It is found at the intersection of 4 different areas; what you’re good at, what you love, what the world needs, and what you can be paid to do.
I started this piece at a tumultuous time in my career, relationship, and life in general. I was aimless, in constant survival mode, and facing compounding existential dread.
Finally, I took a solo camping trip to get away from the noise to reflect on these 4 things. After journaling, meditation, and prayer, It finally came to me so clearly - I need to be an Art Therapist & artist. Unfortunately, that meant some things had to go (relationship, job, self-destructive habits, etc). I’ve since made decisions that are fully aligned with this new goal and life feels like pure joy again.
